Carpet Installation

Step 1 - Choosing the Right Carpet for You

At Easiflooring, we have many different carpet brands to choose from. Our carpeting comes in four major types: cut pile, loop pile, pattern carpet and shaggy construction. Each of those types is available in different types of fibre, natural or synthetic. High traffic areas benefit from patterned carpeting that helps hide dirt and wear to the flooring. Formal areas enjoy the luxury of a plush carpet that your whole body will enjoy. Our flooring experts will assess your space and advise you on the best carpet for your needs.

Step 2 - Getting Rid of Existing Carpet

Pulling up old carpet can be a difficult task. Our installers are trained to remove the old carpeting with minimal dust and pet dander released into the air. They also remove any mouldings that impede the carpet removal.

Step 3 - Laying the Underflooring

Our installers then clean the area and prepare the space by removing old tacking strips and installing new ones. They then put down the underlay to give you that feeling of walking on clouds and help with the performance of your new carpeting.

Step 4 - Laying the New Carpet

The carpeting is then cut to size with just the right amount of overlay so that there is minimum carpet wastage or damage.

Step 5 - Match Up Carpet Seams

Our installers then use joining tape to attach the two pieces of carpeting together as most areas require more than one piece of carpeting. This must be done with precision, a seaming iron and a roller is used, or the joins will not match up and they will not seal properly, leaving you with a carpet that will lift at the joins. Our installers are knowledgeable and experienced, ensuring that these joins are done flawlessly.

Step 6 - Stretching and Attaching the Carpet

To finish the installation, the carpet must be stretched, first with a “knee kicker” and then with a carpet stretcher to attach the carpet to the tacking strips. This is then followed by a wall trimming, tucking in and the reinstallation of the moulding.

Step 7 - Enjoy!

It is time for you to enjoy your new carpet!

Carpet Maintenance

The best way to ensure long lasting beauty, comfort and durability in your carpet is to vacuum it regularly, as it prevents soil from becoming embedded in the carpet’s pile. It is preferable to use a suction vacuum especially one that has that has a Wet and Dry facility.

Use Walk Off mats at entrances and passages -this will save the life of your carpet.

Consider professional cleaning every 12-18 months especially where children and pets occupy the premises. For commercial installations, a minimum of every 12 months should be considered.

Use scissors to clip sprouts and snags; do not pull them or you may damage the carpet. Heavy furniture will always cause dents to the carpet. Depending on the type of yarn, it is possible, should the furniture be not too heavy, to revive the pile to a certain extent by stroking the pile with the edge of a coin.

If your carpet is burned, remove the tops of the dark, burnt fibres with curved fingernail scissors. Extensive burns may require patching or replacement.

If the carpet is flooded from a bust pipe, washing machine overflow, the carpet needs to be dried thoroughly to maintain your warranty. If it is a minor spill use your water extraction facility on your vacuum. Once the water is removed place a fan over the wet spot to facilitate drying. A major spill however needs to be attended to by a professional cleaner.

Stain removal: Always treat the affected area immediately. The longer the spill sits there, the harder it will be to remove the stain. For a food spill, gently remove as much solid material as you can with a spoon, or a dull knife. Add water using detergent (Sunlight liquid is a good detergent) sparingly if needed. Then, using the highest suction function, vacuum back and forth, adding more fresh water to the stain as you go until completely clean and free of detergent.

For oil-based stains you may require a spot removal solvent. Apply several drops to a clean white cloth and blot the carpet in an inconspicuous area. If you notice a change in the carpet colour, consult a professional carpet cleaner. If stains remain after cleaning, moisten tufts in the stained area with 3% hydrogen peroxide and let stand for one hour. Blot and repeat until completely clean.
